TERRITORY

Dragons are solitary creatures that fiercely protect their territory—and they consider all the land and sea that they can reach within a day’s flight to be their territory.

Any visitors within those borders will quickly discover if they are welcome or not—and rival dragons are almost never welcome. One dragon getting too close to another’s lair could be eyeing up the treasure hoard and planning a raid.

RIVALRY AND TERRITORY

If two dragons make their nests close together, they will arrange to meet in the air, away from both of their homes. This gives them an opportunity to inspect each other and find out who is the bigger threat. If the dragons are evenly matched, they may negotiate a border to their lands.

Chromatic dragons are hostile to anyone who gets too close, but some metallic dragons enjoy company and may make friends with their neighbors—as long as those next door don’t have an eye on the dragon’s treasure. Chromatic and metallic dragons will almost never live side by side.
